REACH - SVHC's, Authorization, and Restrictions

The target audience of this 1 hour Online webinar are Hazard Communication Specialists and REACH project and implementation staff members.

For Substances of Very High Concern, an Authorization under the REACH Regulation (EC) 1907/2006 will be required for their use and their placing on the EU market. The substances required to be authorized are substances which are either CMRs Category 1 and 2, or PBT/vPvBs, or identified from scientific evidence as causing probable serious effects to humans or the environment.

The Restrictions procedure under the REACH Regulation (EC) 1907/2006 enables the EU Commission and ECHA to regulate EU-wide conditions for the manufacture, placing on the market or use of certain substances where there is a risk to human health or the environment or the prohibition of any of these activities, if necessary. All activities with a substance which are not restricted are allowed under REACH unless the substance is included in the Authorization system. Any substance on its own, in a preparation or in an article may be subject to EU-wide Restrictions if it is demonstrated that risks need to be addressed on an EU-wide basis.

In the 1 hour webinar we will discuss the following topics:

  • Chemicals considered Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs)
  • Proposals for Identification of SVHCs
  • Public Consultation for SVHCs
  • Annex XV dossiers
