(M)SDS Awareness Course
Course Overview
This one day on-line course is intended to provide assistance to those in need of a better understanding of (M)SDSs and chemical hazard communication and its practical application in the workplace. The course is intended for those with little to basic experience with hazard communication who will be utilizing (M)SDSs, labels, and other forms of hazard communication in their everyday work. The course can easily be adapted to be taught on-site in order to meet OSHA hazard communication training requirements.

This course is not intended to provide instruction for how to author an MSDS or label, nor a condensed version of the 3 day MSDS authoring course.

It will provide the basis for understanding the regulatory requirements governing when an (M)SDS is required and (M)SDS distribution, as well as a firm understanding of (M)SDS content. The course will also address other major elements of hazard communication, including industrial workplace labeling requirements and NFPA and HMIS ratings.

Students will cover OSHA requirements, the individual sections of the ANSI (M)SDS format, major industrial workplace label formats, and interpretation of HMIS and NFPA ratings. Emphasis will be placed on when to use each portion of an MSDS or label, and on utilizing hazard communication in every-day work applications as well as in emergency response.
