Course Overview
This half-day online course is intended to provide basic information on the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) for those who are new to it and need a better understanding of the hazard phrases and symbols used by GHS. This course is intended for individuals having some experience with (M)SDS’s in the workplace. It is meant to fulfill provisions set out by OSHA that employees of manufacturers/importers must be trained on GHS within a two-year time frame upon release of the final rule for the revised OSHA Hazard Communication Standard. This final rule is expected to be released no earlier than March 2011.
This course is not intended to provide detailed information on how to classify substances and mixtures using GHS, nor is it meant to be a condensed version of ChemADVISOR’s 2-day GHS Course.
Students will learn about what GHS is and how it will affect them in the workplace. Emphasis will be placed on interpretation of labels and label elements, including GHS symbols, hazard statements, and precautionary statements.
