The Brazilian Government invites ChemADVISOR to participate in an International REACH Workshop    Due to the increasing participation of Brazilian industries in the international trade and the intensification of demands linked to global regulatory issues regarding health and environmental protection, specifically, REACH, the government of Brazil invited ChemADVISOR Inc. to participate in the International REACH Workshop. The event was sponsored by The Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade - MDIC and The Foreign Trade Secretariat - SECEX, which took place at the headquarters of the Trade and Investment Promotion Agency - APEX in Brasília city, Brazil, on April 7th , 2009. There were also notable partcipants and co-sponsros to this event such as The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The National Confederation of Industries (CNI), The Brazilian Association of Chemical Industry (ABIQUIM), Mr. Roque Puiatti (GT-GHS Brazil Group), and The Chamber of Chemical and Petrochemical Industry of Argentina (CIQyP). As global leaders of regulatory analysis and chemical classification, ChemADVISOR provided an assessment on the Impacts of REACH in the NAFTA region along with detailed information regarding the impacts to the Brazilian chemical exports to NAFTA under ChAMP (Chemical Assessment and Management Program), The TSCA Enhancement Program, Canada’s CMP (Chemical Management Program)“Challenge Program”, and Mexico’s role as a member of the North American Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP). The participants of the Brazilian government submitted actions currently undertaken by the different governmental agencies such as creating a REACH office representation in Europe and foreign currency exemptions, as well as inter-agency partnerships in order to minimize the economic impacts of REACH on Brazilian exports. Furthermore, the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade provide an analysis on the Impacts of REACH on Brazil and MERCOSUR. During the subsequent sessions there were discussions on the latest information on REACH, an analysis on the main impacts of Brazilian chemical exports at the end of pre-registration, and the considerations of GHS for the classification, labeling, and packaging (CLP) of hazardous substances and mixtures under REACH. At the end, there were discussions on the current assessment of REACH impacts on small and medium companies in Brazil and MERCOSUR and the feasibility of joint actions to minimize these impacts.
